Hi AVG Community,

Understanding how venture capital works is critical for the increasing number of companies that seek private funding and for those who want to a career in this notoriously gated industry. Below are some of my recommendations for great, insightful content.

Venture on,

The Prof G Show

Hosted by Scott Galloway

Scott Galloway, a professor at Stern, offers up provocative suggestions and hard truths in this idea-rich 45 minutes. His topics generally speak to how you can get ahead in business, focusing on the winners and losers in the innovation economy. Example: His recent takedown of college and universities is a rallying cry for much-needed innovation in the education space.

Thinking Fast and Slow

By Daniel Kahneman

There has been a revolution in economics in large part thanks to the Nobel prize-winning work of the author. This dense book isn’t for everyone, but if you want a better understanding of your fellow humans—with a lot of business fundamentals worked in, including framing, loss aversion, choices, and much more—you need to dive into Behavioral Economics. And if you are going to read one book in the area, this is it.

American Factory

Directed by Steven Bognar & Julia Reichert

This film, winner of the Best Documentary of 2019, depicts cultures colliding, globalization, and bifurcation of society. It’s a story of workers vs. management, China vs. America, machines vs. human. The documentary pushes you beyond understanding to actually feel and experience the dynamics of modern capitalism.

Alumni Ventures Group provides smart, simple venture portfolios with community to accredited individuals. PitchBook listed AVG as the third most active VC firm in the U.S. and the seventh most active in the world (2019).
