The discussion will be led by Managing Partner Michael Madden, Partner Lee Rawlings, Principal Alex Attard-Manché, and Alumni Ventures’ Senior Partner* Deborah Walden. The webinar is open to all alums and friends of Harvard. There will be time for open questions during the call.

Michael Madden
Michael Madden

Managing Partner

Michael is a Co-Founder of Alumni Ventures and has been the Managing Partner of The Yard Ventures since inception. Working alongside a great team, Michael has invested in over 120 companies on the way to building large, diversified venture capital portfolios for our Yard investors. Prior to joining the early team at Alumni Ventures, Michael had been a venture investor, board member, and advisor while at firms such as Summit Partners, Polaris Venture Partners, Edison Partners, and Square One. He earned an AB from Harvard University, where he was a four-year letter winner in both Varsity Football and Varsity Baseball. Michael later received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Lee Rawlings
Lee Rawlings

Partner

Lee is a Partner at The Yard Ventures. He was previously a Partner at GM Ventures, where he focused on technologies and business models ushering in automotive electrification, autonomous driving, and mobility services as a startup investor and board observer. Before GM Ventures, Lee sourced and led acquisitions for Cruise Automation, a driverless car startup acquired by GM in 2016. Prior to Cruise, Lee held various roles at GM’s startup Urban Mobility unit, including Mobility Strategist and Head of Performance. Before GM, Lee was active in the startup communities of NYC and Detroit, co-founding two companies and serving as advisor for several others. Lee began his professional career as a combat-engineer platoon leader in the U.S. Army. After his service, he worked as an engineer at Verizon and later covered the energy sector as an investment banker at Credit Suisse and the aerospace and defense sector as an equities analyst at Morgan Stanley. Lee received his BS in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Alex Attard-Manché
Alex Attard-Manché

Principal

Alex is a Principal at The Yard Ventures and is experienced in strategy, operations, and investing. Prior to The Yard, she was Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Bertelsmann, working within world-leading divisions across publishing, music, and TV, as well as Bertelsmann investments (who has over $1 billion invested). She began her career in London, firstly within media research at a leading European boutique firm before moving into strategy consulting and then working at the BBC. She has experience as an investor at two Boston-based venture capital funds and has a particular passion for investments within the media, technology and sports, and consumer industries. Alex received her BA and MA in Theology from the University of Oxford, Trinity College and her MBA from Harvard Business School.

Deborah Walden
Deborah Walden

Senior Partner

Deborah has over 25 years of experience working with social impact entrepreneurs and mission-driven leaders. Prior to joining AVG, Deb was an independent consultant for business development and growth strategies, guiding founders through the early startup and launch phases of new social ventures and nonprofit organizations. Her clients included an MIT professor and former dean launching a venture to transform the higher education landscape, social ventures focused on national security and foreign policy, and a national organization building a global joint initiative for world leaders. She has worked in higher education advancement, nonprofit management, and as a Capitol Hill lobbyist, beginning her career as committee staff in the US Senate. Deborah holds a BS in political science from Birmingham-Southern College and a MA in Communication from American University.
