In a recent analysis by Axios, Alumni Ventures (AV) ranked third in the number of investments made in U.S.-based climate tech companies, behind only Breakthrough Energy Ventures and SOSV.

The ranking comes as no surprise to those familiar with AV’s reputation for sourcing and investing in promising companies and startups that aim to solve some of the biggest challenges facing our planet. AV has an established track record of investing in entrepreneurs addressing difficult problems, including global warming, sustainable energy production, and net-zero transportation.

Climate change poses a quantifiable economic threat to every country on the planet, according to a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are contributing to permanent changes to the global climate. Innovative startups aim to help consumers and organizations transition to alternative and renewable energy sources, and VC firms have taken notice. According to a PitchBook report, global investors in 2021 closed as many climate-focused funds as were raised during the previous five years combined. Many investors are confident that climate change-related companies are forming an integral part of the overall economy.

We’ve compiled a shortlist of impactful climate tech companies from AV’s portfolio. They run the gamut from products addressing climate change head on to startups seeking to mitigate the consequences of a dramatically changed global climate. All reflect AV’s dedication to investing in entrepreneurs aiming to create a better world for future generations.
